Custom Dho-Gazza Net

Custom Dho-Gazza Net
Things to Consider...
Note: This net is sold by the linear foot in its folded form. When setting up for use, it may only be one half to two-third this length. For example, a twenty feet (folded) net will provide a ten to thirteen feet of actual dho-gazza net when set up with a 6-inch shelf/pocket on the bottom of the net.

Therefore, if you wish to set up a dg net of 15 feet long, you should have at least 30 feet of netting.

This net is sold undyed (white). So that you can dye it to any color you like to suit your trapping terrain or leave it white for winter trapping.

This falconry dho-gazza netting* is 2" square mesh by 8' high by however long your need is. The fine thread size makes it almost invisible from the distance especially when setup so that there are trees or some sort of vegetations in the background so the approaching hawk could not detect the net....100% of the hawks (I caught) that stooped at the bait never detected the nets because of the grassy background.

My favorite set up is with two 30' long dg's. One infront of the bownet about 15' or far enough so that the flutting pigeon can't get entangled in it and one about five feet behind the bownet. With this typical setup, I virtually catch anything that come down on the pigeon. Most of these captures are with the front net, but there are some that do come in from behind or drop straight down onto the pigeon, but decided to pull up at the last second which inturn would be captured by the back dg.

*In technical terms, a dho-gazza is a one shelf/pocket mist net. A mist net has more than one shelf or pocket to retain the trapped birds. Mist nets for capturing larger birds similar size to hawks utilized this same netting, but have multiple panels to form multiple shelves. As far as effectiveness in capturing hawks, I have been trapping for many years and I firmly believe that dho-gazzas are better for catching hawks than mist nets. Mist nets are more suited for trapping small dicky birds. With the extra material required to form the shelves of a mist net, it makes it more detectable to the hawks so they are more likely able to avoid the nets.

What extra materials required to set up this dho-gazza:
  • 2 - 10 feet EMT poles or anything suitable.
  • 2 - 3/4" x 12" long EMT sleeve for the poles.
  • 2 - Suitable size string twice the length of the net. One for the top edge and one for the bottom edge.
  • 4 - screw eyelets.
  • Enough string for four tie-downs.
  • 4 - clothes pins or paper clips to hold the four corners in place.
