- The double-wall option is recommended for the following two reasons:
- If rodents are the main baits, the double-wall will prevent them from chewing and destroying the nooses.
- Or if starlings are used, we also recommend the double-wall option to prevent them from snaring themselves by pulling the nooses in through the wire mesh and getting entangled (it's not fun trying to untangle one or two starlings that got caught in multiple nooses inside a bc).
- BC housing material - 1/2" x 1/2" wire mesh
(painted dull black to maximize visibility of baits) - Nooses - 15# test mono
(good all purpose strength and stiffness for trapping everything from kestrel to red-tailed hawks) - Bait - anything from mice to pigeon
- My favorite baits are two starlings or one starling & one pigeon - red-tailed's can't resist these combinations.... Single bait of either species works too, but not as effective. My experience also indicate that gerbils seems to attract red-tailed's better than mice.
